A WOMAN has finally won some justice as she has seen the man who sexually abused her go to jail. The attacks were carried out just over 40 years ago – in 1976 and 1977, when the woman was just nine years old.
The man going to jail is Lawrence Graham, 53, of High Road, South Woodford. The woman he attacked as a young girl reported his crimes in August 2016. Police investigated her allegations and arrested Graham in October 2016 – and then charged him in July 2017.
On 5th February Graham pleased guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court to two counts of indecent assault contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 1956. He was returned to Court on 23rd March and was sentenced to 20 months in prison for each count, to run concurrently.
Detective Constable Kelly Smith of the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command said, “I thank the victim for having the bravery to come forward and tell her story which must have been extremely difficult. I want this sentence to reassure other victims that the Met will always fully investigate these allegations, no matter how long ago they happened.”
