Fisher 1-3 Sporting Bengal United

After a blip against  Deal Town, Sporting Bengal United were able to lift themselves to an impressive win against Fisher FC.

More importantly, Tower Hamlets flag bearers secured another three vital points to lift themselves off the bottom Of the table. The Kent Senior League showdown took place at Dulwich Hamlets FC’s ground. The first half was tight and   both teams cancelled out each other with measured possession and defensive tactics.

The half time refreshments seemed to spur on both sides, and it was Fisher hitman Ramirez who drew first blood,  earning a penalty for his team. Ramirez dusted himself down to take the spot kick, which was thwarted by a brilliant full length save by the in form Alfie Brincatt.

Brincatt’s moment of inspiration was the tide turner, and his jubilant team mates went on to take the lead – Shiblu  Miah converting Shahed’s well placed pass on 62 minutes. Buoyed by the opening goal, Sporting began to express  and dominate in the centre of the park. The pressure paid dividends and when Nana Adejie retained and passed
the ball sideways, the ever alert Shiblu looked up and lobbed the Fisher keeper from fully thirty yards.

Nerves did fray when Dexter Babalola pulled a goal back for Fisher five minutes from time, but Mamun Chowdhury’s men held on and in an injury time foray, John Donoghue, last season’s top scorer struck home a match clinching  third for Sporting.

The win not only lifts Sporting off the foot of the table, it also secured a double over Fisher this season. “After defeat to Deal Town, this was a great morale boosting win, said Manager Mamun Chowdhury. “I’m very proud at the way my team have lifted themselves and shown the character to win this game. Our strength and spirit will be vital to how  successful we are in this league.”

Sporting’s next game is away to second placed Herne Bay FC.
