Surefire Shawn sees Scintilla home

A MATCH-WINNING innings of 139 from Captain Ishaq Shawn and five wickets from Hanif Kibria proved decisive as Scintilla continued their unbeaten run.

Coming in at number four, Shawn remained unbeaten at the crease as Scintilla racked up 286/6 after 45 overs. Helping the Captain hold the fort were Jahidul Haque, Adil Ejaz, M Hasan and A B Rony. The game management of Sajal Rahman was crucial as the all-rounder held up the tail end to support Shawn’s big knock.

After a steady start in the field led by Morshadur Rahman, who took the first wicket, and Rifat Mahmud, the leaders had to be patient to capture the prize wicket of Darshan Trivedi, bowled by Bilal Khan and caught by Yesin Arafat. Until that point Trivedi’s 95-run partnership with Pragnesh Patel threatened to remain in place for 45 overs. Khan finished the match with four wickets and Kibria with five to wrap up a 148 run win and the points for Scintilla.

After his man of the match performance Ishaq Shawn chose not to speak about his own performance. “I have repeatedly highlighted the attitude of the team,” he said. “We support each other at all costs. We win together, we lose together. We swiftly turn our full focus to our next game against Millwall Stars.”
