FOR SHEER DRAMA the Inner London Football League (ILFL) has produced its most compelling season yet.
With London Tigers pipping Stepney FC to the Premiership title on goal difference, it was over to Muhammed Nashir’s SYA, who had to win against Abohani Vets – or concede the promotion and top spot in the First Division to either London Legends, Abohani Vets or ELS Vets – to clinch the First Division Title.
SYA Vets – similar to Stepney Legends in the Premiership – led the First Division throughout the season, and after watching Stepney fail to cross over the winning line they knew what they had to do.
SYA manager Nashir reminded his team that their destiny was in their own hands and exactly what was at stake. His players responded well, battling for every ball as livewire Israel Amadi’s brace was enough to pull off a 2-1 win and top spot for SYA.
There were big performances from captain Khalid Ahmed alongside Sunu Miah, Kabir Miah and Paul Parkinson. Also present at the game was prize mascot Ayna Miah.
Triumphant SYA manager Nashir said: “What a difference a season makes. At the end of the last campaign we shed tears of disappointment. Today it’s tears of joy. The boys have been amazing throughout. We will now work to consolidate our position in the Premiership.”
