TOWER HAMLETS COUNCILLORS: what are they like? The hot topic in the Borough is the decision of Executive Mayor John Biggs to impose new contracts (“Tower Rewards”) on the Council workforce.  Do Labour Councillors back him or not? Ten councillors have signed an open letter asking him to think again.  Thirty-one have not.  It’s time we got to know our councillors a bit better, so this month we’ll be sharing some quotes from Labour’s public representatives.

“Today I’ve learnt five things that you should be aware of when it comes to dementia. Among other things, dementia is not a natural part of ageing and it’s not just about memory loss either. I’m really pleased to support such a hugely important cause and want to thank the dedicated volunteers for the excellent work that they have done so far in reaching more than 3 million people.”
Cllr Victoria Obaze, Whitechapel Ward, Speaker

We had a great deal of trouble finding a quote from Cllr Victoria Obaze. She is a great re-tweeter but not a tweeter – and similarly shares other people’s posts on Facebook rather than upload her own. Finally we tracked down something she said after attending a Dementia Friends Awareness session. Ironically, it was recorded in our own East London News.

Victoria is one of the councillors who signed the open letter urging Executive Mayor John Biggs to reconsider imposing Tower Rewards contracts on the Council workforce. Good on her.  You may want to drop her an email or a text to congratulate her.
