Thought for today 30.06.20

#BlackLivesMatter This month we have been recording responses made to the killing of George Floyd on 25th May or which seem relevant to it. Too many black people have died at the hands of state racism, institutional racism – and individual racism stoked by the first two.  We can all work together to turn the tide of racism. It will be a long and difficult struggle – but George Floyd’s death has brought many young people into that fight. We may yet change the world. Should we name 25th May as George Floyd day, to ensure that we never forget?

Let’s close the month with a message of wisdom and hope from one of the greatest politicians of our time, whose spirit could not be crushed by the apartheid state.

“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
Nelson Mandela
