Tower Hamlets cop sacked after harassment conviction

A TOWER HAMLETS police constable has been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police – three and a half months since he was found guilty of harassment.

PC Christopher Gilham was based at Tower Hamlets. He was convicted of harassment on 10th November at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court after an investigation conducted by Hertfordshire Police.

PC Gilham was sentenced on 12th December to a 12 month community order which requires him to perform 150 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £620 court costs and an £85 victim surcharge. He was also given a two year restraining order requiring him not to make direct or indirect contact with his former partner.

The Metropolitan Police held a special case hearing on 26th February to deal with an internal disciplinary charge, namely that his conduct amounted to a breach of the Metropolitan Police standards of professional behaviour.

At the hearing, the Chair found PC Gilham guilty of discreditable conduct amounting to gross misconduct. He was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police without notice.
