Two injured by car outside Birmingham mosque

A CAR drove into two men outside the Shah Jalal mosque on Ettington Road in the Aston area of Birmingham at approximately 2.15pm today, 27th April in an incident which was all too reminiscent of the attack on Finsbury Park Mosque last June.

Police are keeping an open mind at this early stage, but it is possible that the incident is a hate crime or terror-related. The two victims are both reported to be in their 20s. One is reported to have suffered relatively minor injuries, while the second victim has a head injury. The driver did not stop at the scene.

The car which ran into the two men is reported to be silver, but no further details are known. Police are trying to trace the vehicle and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw a silver vehicle, possibly travelling at speed, in the area of Ettington Road at around 2.15pm to contact them.

Shabana Mahmood, Labour MP for Ladywood, who is the local MP, echoed the police’s words. She told the Birmingham Mail, “Today’s incident is shocking and has caused huge concern across the local community. I’d urge anyone with information to come forward and help the police with their investigation.”
