THE UMMAH WELFARE TRUST charity held a community fun day at Barking Riverside to help raise awareness and much needed support for the Burma appeal to support the persecuted Rohingya people.
The total raised from the fun day was just over £1,500. There were plenty of family activities and stalls selling cakes, mojitos and BBQ food.
The event was supported by the local Chunky Chicken fast food chain, which provided the majority of the stock. Shahzad Meats donated BBQ items and the Rivergate Centre allowed free use of the venue to support the charity’s drive to help some of the most persecuted people in the planet. There was additional help from Monsoon Barking and volunteers from the Ansaar Al Ummah team.
Fundraising officer Md Imran said, “I would like to thank the community for making this such a successful day. It’s incumbent upon us as humans to support those less fortunate, and the response has been terrific. The Rohingya are almost the forgotten people but it’s encouraging that there are people still out there who will continue to support their rights to live life without persecution.”
