A LITTLE BABY BOY is celebrating being one month old – but he has spent his first month of life without his mum. Now police are issuing a fresh appeal for her to come forward.
Baby Harry was found at around 8.20am on the morning of Sunday, 17th September in a park area close to Balaam Street, E13. The emergency services received a report that an apparently abandoned baby had been found. Police and ambulance staff rushed over and found a baby, carefully wrapped in a white blanket.
The baby was taken to an East London hospital, where he was looked after and found to be in good health, despite his shaky start in life. Hospital staff named him “Harry”. Now police and medical staff are worried about his mum. She may be in need of medical treatment after the birth. There is also concern that she may be very troubled to have abandoned her baby – and there are people who want to help her with any problem that may have pushed her this far.
Police have released a picture of the baby so that his mum can see that although he is being looked after, he still needs her. They hope she will come forward and take whatever help she needs so that the two can be together again.
Detective Inspector Ian Baker, leading the inquiry, said, “Baby Harry is doing well under the care of hospital staff but we are very worried about his mother. If you see this appeal, please come forward and let us know you are safe. I know you must be feeling very frightened and alone to have done what you did but please make contact with us or your local hospital or GP surgery so they can check you are OK and offer you medical care and support.
“Little Harry needs to be reunited with his mother so we would urge anyone else with information, or who saw anything out of the ordinary in the Balaam Street area on Sunday morning, to please come forward.”
•Anyone with information as to the identity of the mother is asked to call police on 07775-116 916, 020-8217 6528 or via 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously. This is not to suggest that Harry’s mum has committed a crime – but some people prefer to give information via Crimestoppers.
