Woman critical after Whitechapel crash

ARE appealing for witnesses after a collision between a motorbike and a pedestrian outside the Royal London Hospital left three people injured – one critically.

The collision took place just after 1am on Thursday, 12th October, on Whitechapel Road. The person riding the motorcycle and the pedestrian were taken to hospital with injuries which are described as “not life threatening”. the motorcyclist is assisting police with their inquiries.

The motorcyclist’s pillion passenger, a woman in her 30s, was also taken to hospital with more serious injuries, where she is in a critical condition. Her next of kin have not yet been informed.

The London Ambulance Service attended the scene, together with the police, who are appealing for witnesses to come forward. There is no clue yet about how the accident happened, but Whitechapel Road has recently undergone a major refurbishment, with new cycle lanes and bus stops being installed. Some road users have complained that the extensive new signage on the road, as well as the new lanes for cyclists and the new floating bus stops, have made the road confusing for drivers and, therefore, more dangerous.
