Red Star win Rossendale Cup

Red Star Under 14s beat off strong competition to win the Rossendale Junior tournament during a competitive bank holiday football extravaganza. The youngsters beat Nurul Hussain’s much fancied Jubo Dhol team from Bradford on penalties in the final of the Cup competition.

Red Star had a strong contingent and the under 12s and under 16s lost in their respective semis. With strength in depth, Jewel Miah MBE loaned two Under 10 players to a local team. The selfless gesture helped their adopted team to victory in their age range competition. Nehal from Red Star won the player of the tournament for the under 10s.

Manager Jewel Miah MBE said, “Thank you Fakrul Choudhury, Mohammed Yousaf, Abdul Hamid, Amjid Mohammad and Mustab for all the hard work. As always it was great to see my good friends Anu, Kabir Miah and Jahangir Miah. Their team, Leeds One Formation, was unlucky to lose to Red Star in the semis, conceding a goal with only ten seconds left in the game.

“Anu provided plenty of encouragement to our players throughout the tournament. A massive thank you to Moheen Uddin for organising a great tournament. Commiserations to Jubo Dhol – it was a great day our for Red Star family.”
