Scintilla had two shining knights this weekend, with Badrul Alam Chowdhury (Bappy) plundering 103 runs and veteran warhorse Sajal Rahman taking 5 wickets as the Barking & Dagenham outfit beat Redbridge CC at the Britannia Ground, Walthamstow.
Club Captain Ahmed Choudhury said, “We were deflated after last week’s derby loss but it is a measure of our resilience that we have put that out of our system and bounced back so well.”
Scintilla seconds lost a disappointing local derby to Newham in the Essex County Cricket League.
On Sunday Shaha Riadh’s Essex Sunday League beat Rose & Crown by bowling out their opponents for 109.
Scintilla won the toss, decided to bat first and scored 158 all out from 35 overs. Hassan and Bappy were the top scorers with 42 and 32 runs respectively, with Rahman and Bulbul contributing a further 17 and 15 runs. Bulbul Kadir was named man of the match for a stellar wicket keeping display.
Riadh analysed the performance, saying, “We have four teams playing over a typical weekend and I still feel we could go up a few gears in terms of our fitness levels.”
Despite Adil Ejaz Bhatti taking 5 wickets, Scintilla lost by 29 runs after bowling out Rising Star for 146 in the National Cricket League.
