Military sieges in Madaya, Ghouda and Moadamiyah have left a million Syrians facing starvation. Accordingly, the Ummah Welfare Trust (UWT) organised a weekend of fundraising activities to support affected people in these areas – where food is so scare that some individuals have starved to death.
Muhammad Imran from UWT said: “It is not uncommon for people to have survived by living off grass in these besieged areas. What has been heartwarming is the diversity of the people who have filled our collection buckets. The cause has united communities for a vital humanitarian cause. With everyone’s donations UWT will now be providing cooked food in these stricken areas.”
