Child abduction was “misunderstanding”

TOWER HAMLETS police have confirmed that the reports which were circulating on social media on Tuesday claiming that a child had been abducted arose after a misunderstanding.

Police have confirmed that they attended an incident in Cambridge Heath Road, Bethnal Green, at around 4pm on Tuesday, 12th June following reports that an adult male had abducted a young child. They later established that the man who took the child was known to the child and the inference that there had been an abduction was wrong. They confirmed that no offences were committed.

Local residents and parents across the borough – who had been hoping for the best while also fearing the worst – were greatly relieved to hear there had been a happy ending.
