Volunteers at the Docklands Community Initiative and Docklands Football Club organised a special reception to say thank you to members of the community who have supported Foodbank activities throughout Covid.

Eight guests were given the red carpet treatment by Docklands FC volunteers during a special evening which started with black taxi drivers, Abdul Sabur and Alamin, transporting guests free of charge to the Indian Ocean, Romford, where Javed Miah had laid on a sumptuous food spread.

The Hummingbird Bakery were on hand to make the experience extra special by providing mouth-watering sweet treats and cupcakes for the community recognition meal.

Docklands FC and the Docklands Community Initiative have been providing services to local communities throughout the Covid lockdown and beyond, including home deliveries of food parcels, working alongside Only a Pavement Away, John Lewis, Thomas Franks and partners to provide clothes, ready meals, fresh fruit, vegetables, cosmetics, as well as books and DVDs in partnership with #bookbikelondon.

Speaking after the event, Docklands FC Chair Sunu Miah commented, “We have just enjoyed a relaxed evening to celebrate our well-wishers – normal people who usually shun the limelight. They have been with us through thick and thin and helped us reach out to so many people facing hardship. Our volunteers thank them all.

“On this note I would like to thank Sabur and our youngsters who have played starring roles throughout our existence and for giving up their work to make available their iconic London black taxis for our patrons, the Hummingbird bakery for the wonderful treats and Javed and the Indian Ocean for the delicious food. Last but not least I want to thank my team for their relentless positivity throughout our journey so far.”

Senior DCI volunteer Jackie Reid added, “This is a terrific initiative and I’m so proud that we as a team have come together to deliver such an outstanding celebration.”

Guests on the night included David Stackable, Liz Watson, Lynn Roberts, and Robin Dixon.

Docklands Football Club run a weekly Foodbank and drop off for local residents. The team can be visited at Phoenix Court lock ups
