Firefighters tackle blaze in Loughton

“KEEP CLEAR OF LOUGHTON” is the message coming from the London and Essex fire brigades as they tackle a fire on a building site on Burton Road, near Debden station.

The blaze was reported just after 11.15am and firefighters raced to the scene – to find that a blaze had taken hold in a three storey building where construction works were being carried out.

It is a large building – and fire crews were assisted by an Aerial Ladder Platform which arrived from Chelmsford to help bring the fire under control. The fire was eventually extinguished at 1.15pm, leaving firefights to clear up and begin investigating the cause of the blaze.

Several roads in the area where closed to allow firefighters to work safely and without interruption – causing traffic queues as drivers attempted to find alternative routes.  It is not known when traffic will return to normal.
