THE HEDGECOCK Community Centre (HCC) delivered another impressive “End of Summer” Community Fun Day on Sunday, 5th September.

On this blazing hot day, more than 300 people packed out HCC and the surrounding areas. Also in attendance was ward Cllr Faruk Choudhury and the Leader of the Council, Cllr Darren Rodwell.

Activities included BBQ, bouncy castles, air shoot, air juggler, arts and crafts for kids, face painting, henna artists and various handicraft stalls.

Joining them was a charity stall (above) run by the Bangladesh Regeneration Trust UK (BRTUK) and Barking Community Forum (BCF) selling Mojito, fruit platters and PB’s chutneys.

The main attraction of the day was a series of boxing demos, showcasing the talent of the Boxers Fitness Academy (BFA).

Cllr Rodwell acknowledged the work of the HCC management during the height of the coronavirus pandemic and how they helped to keep residents safe and ensure the Borough was moving forward despite having to deal with the consequences of a global pandemic.

Yousuf Khan, Chair of the Hedgecock Community Centre, thanked all the staff and volunteers for working extremely hard in a very short time to put the event together. He also thanked all the residents and partners for making the Fun Day yet another successful event this year.

Finally, Nazir Ali, HCC Marketing Lead, added that this event showed the community has outgrown the HCC area. It was hoped that next year this event could be moved to Mayesbrook Park, and with the council’s support it could become an annual community fair.
