Muslim Giving launches donation platform

A new umbrella organisation for UK-based charities will help secure vital funds by providing a bespoke online donation platform for organisations, fundraisers and donors.

Muslim Giving was launched at The Crystal in Royal Victoria Docks. The event was hosted by TV presenter and keynote speaker Rahim Jung.

Muslim Giving is dedicated to allowing users to find charities they wish to support and create their own fundraising pages. It will provide a Zakah category to enable donors to specify clearly the type of donation being made.

According to the Pew Research Centre there are 4.1 million Muslims in the UK who are widely acknowledged to be among the most generous charity donors. An easy to use donation platform puts donors in the driving seat by focussing on the fundamentals of online fundraising and building relationships between charities and donors.

For charities there are low costs but, additionally, customised analysis of donations will provide a snapshot of how effective fundraising activities are. Unique reporting tools will customise and filter pages to produce concise and relevant data, which will enable charities to view past campaigns, comparisons and analysis of trends.

Muslim Giving is an open platform for everyone but was inspired after the team recognised the need to categorise further and support donations made by Muslims. In this sense the Zakah category is crucial, and users will have constant access to a coach for guidance and support.

Muslim Giving will greatly help Muslims fulfil Islamic obligations such as Zakah, voluntary contributions to the needy and other types of payments outlined by Islamic teachings.

At the launch, there was a short presentation from Lynne Northcott of www.jogonhijabi.com on running in the upcoming London Marathon to raise money for water wells in The Gambia. She said, “I’m impressed with the use of technology and the customisation of fundraising pages. This all adds a positive dimension to fundraising.”

Muslim News Awards for Excellence nominee Abdal Ahmed, who is also running the London Marathon and recently returned from a Ghana water project deployment, added, “I am particularly interested in the analytics and reporting tools which would help people like me study performances and trends in order to enhance my approach to donors.”
