New BBL Champs London Lions team up with Obelizk

THE COPPER BOX ARENA was set alight last weekend as fans welcomed London’s top basketball team the London Lions – who are the new holders of the BBL Championship title. It was the first championship for the Lions, clinched after the London team beat Esh Group Eagles of Newcastle earlier in the week.

Emotional fans in the Copper Box watched as the Lion’s queued up to collect their winners’ medals before ending the season with a home game against Leicester Riders. The emotion came not only from seeing the Lions clinch their first championship but also from the scale of their victory: it’s the first time a London Club has won the title in 21 years and seven years since the title was won by a Club other than Newcastle or Leicester.

Vincent Macaulay, CEO and Head Coach, said, “I feel honoured to have led London basketball back to the top of the tree. My Coaching team, my club staff, my team have all been brilliant – but what’s awesome is our hard core fans who have backed us up and down the country, this is for you.
