New housing development for East London families

Arhag Housing Association formally launched their new housing development, Newman Court (Bow Baptist Church), on Wednesday 23rd May 2012.

The new scheme has helped to house a large number of families (from a refugee and migrant background) who were living in temporary and sometimes overcrowded accommodation in East London.  Some of the families had been waiting for family accommodation for years.

The development is stunning and interiors have been well thought out to accommodate family living and to have a low environmental impact.  There are outside areas for each apartment, and there is also a communal outside area for the residents.

Family Mosaic, Arhag, Bow Baptist Church, Denne Construction and the Homes and Community Agency (HCA) all came together in partnership to fund and deliver this much needed new development.

“We are delighted that some of our families are finally able to call the Bow Baptist Church development their “home’”, said Barrington Billings, Chair of Arhag Housing Association.

Everyone involved with the development of the scheme including Bow Baptist Church Pastor, Oliver Rice has shown remarkable dedication in ensuring the development serves the housing needs of the community.  With play schemes and community workshops held in the Church Hall itself, it brings a real sense of community back to East London.
