A MALE NURSE has been sentenced to 15 years in jail after being convicted of raping a woman patient while he was at work in an East London hospital.
He was also issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an indefinite period and will be made to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The guilty man is Mohamed Kamara, 47, of Fleming Way, SE28. He had been found guilty of rape on 3rd May, after a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He returned to the Court last week for sentencing.
During his trial, the Court heard that Kamara was a nurse, and the attack was on a woman who was receiving medical treatment at the hospital where Kamara worked. On 15th May 2017, the Court heard, he had raped the woman and threatened her in an attempt to stop her contacting the police.
The victim told her daughter, who reported the attack. Officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command investigated the allegation and ultimately arrested Kamara.
Detective Constable Elli Amson said, “Kamara deliberately preyed on a very vulnerable woman. He targeted her whilst employed in the capacity as a registered mental health nurse and this is a clear breach of trust and abuse of his position.
“I would like recognition to be given to the victim who, in such awful circumstances, found the strength to disclose this traumatic event to her daughter and come forward, despite still remaining in the hospital where the offence took place. Her bravery is truly commendable.
“If anyone has any further information regarding this male please contact the Metropolitan Police.”
