THE AREA OUTSIDE McDonald’s near the entrance to the Stratford shopping mall was the scene of heartbreak this afternoon as a teenager was stabbed to death outside the fast food outlet.
The emergency services were called out at approximately 3.20pm. London Ambulance Service paramedics tried to save the victim but they had to declare him dead just under half an hour later. The victim is believed to be a teenager, but his identity is not being released until police can trace, and inform, his next of kin.
A second teenager was also injured nearby in what was assumed to be the same incident. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he was taken to an East London hospital. Passers-by were shocked to see the victims and a small crowd built up around them.
Several police cars were in attendance at the scene. An area outside the mall, including the road, has been cordoned off while police investigate the killing – and the mall itself was closed. Some buses have been diverted and traffic is being affected.
A Section 60 Order has been made, which gives police officers extended rights to stop and search members of the public in the area. Police also put up a marquee to protect the crime scene.
