Her Majesty The Queen personally thanks Royal London Hospital staff

Her Majesty The Queen visited The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel today (Friday 8 July) to personally thank staff for their role in treating people injured in yesterday’s bomb attacks in central London.

The Queen met the doctors and paramedics from London’s Air Ambulance, which is based at The Royal London Hospital, who treated people at the scene. Her Majesty met porters, nurses, doctors and other frontline and support staff who were involved in treating and caring for patients at the hospital, as well as a number of patients who were caught up in the attacks.

Hundreds of staff in A&E, theatres and wards have been providing care to those caught up in the blasts. Many staff who were off duty came in to the hospital to volunteer to help. Medical, dental, nursing and other students also lent a hand.

The majority of patients were discharged within a few hours of arriving. Most patients were suffering from minor injuries such as superficial cuts. Others had more serious injuries, such as burns and major fractures.

Her Majesty praised all those involved in treating and caring for the patients. In a speech to staff in the hospital’s canteen, Her Majesty said: “Yesterday’s bombings in London have deeply affected us all. I know I speak for everyone in expressing my sympathy to those who have been caught up in these events and, above all, to the relatives and friends of those who have lost their lives. My thoughts are also with the injured some of whom I have been able to see and talk to today.”

Addressing staff, Her Majesty said: “I also want to thank you and all members of the emergency and
