Vandals attack Halal café in Newcastle

CAFÉ OWNERS are downplaying an attack on the My Karak Chai café in West Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne which took place on 6th May, the day before the local elections.

The café’s windows were smashed and a counter inside the shop was damaged. The owners posted a statement confirming that, “A few racist individuals had smashed our shop windows.” They promised that the café would be back in operation in a few days – which it was.

Police attended the café to inspect the damage.

Locals posted messages of support on social media. One read, “So sorry this has happened to you guys. There’s no place in society for hateful people like that.” Another commented, “Well, racism is rife in the UK atm.”

The following day, Labour lost 44 seats on Newcastle-upon-Tyne City Council, leaving only two Labour councillors in post. The Lib-Dems won two new seats and now have 25 councillors. The Green and Reform UK each have 24 councillors: 22 newly elected for the Greens and all 24 of the Reform councillors being elected for the first time.
