Baby Harry – still looking for mum

BABY HARRY was found in a park in Plaistow back in September. He was immediately taken to hospital, where staff named him Harry – and appealed for his mother to come forward. Harry is now in local authority care – still waiting to meet his mother.

It seems that Harry’s mother cared for him as, even though he had been abandoned, he was carefully wrapped in a blanket and left where he was likely to be found. The authorities are keen to re-unite the pair and put them in touch with people who can help them overcome whatever difficulties forced them apart.

Harry is physically well and not yet old enough to wonder why he was abandoned – a question he will ask in later life if his mother does not come forward. However, police are concerned that his mother appears to have had no medical treatment since she gave birth and are worried about her physical and mental welfare.

Police have now issued new pictures of Harry, taken when he was about one month old, and hope that his mother will now have the confidence to come forward.

Where is baby Harry’s mum?

Detective Inspector Debbie McCormack, who leads the investigation, said, “I would reiterate our appeal to Harry’s mum – please come forward and let us know you are safe and if you need care and support, we can help you access this. As you can see from the images, little Harry is doing well but we would urge anyone else with information, or who saw anything out of the ordinary in the Balaam Street area on that morning [17th September], to please come forward.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call police on 020-8217 6538 or via 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously to help baby Harry find his mum.
