Hackney: another stabbing turns to murder

IT WAS JUST before 6pm on Monday, 8th January when the emergency services were called out to Shakespeare Walk, N16 – to deal with a man who had been assaulted. When they arrived, they found the victim had been stabbed.

The London Ambulance Service took the victim, a man who was believed to be aged 34, to an East London Hospital, but he died later that evening. The victim has not been formally named and police are in the process of informing his next of kin.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading a murder investigation, beginning with arranging formal identification and a post mortem.

Detective Inspector Paul Considine, who is leading the investigation, said, “Our initial enquiries have established that the victim was attacked by a group outside Burns House in Shakespeare Walk and work continues to establish what the motive was behind this assault.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of Shakespeare Walk around the time of the incident to contact police and provide us with any information that could assist this investigation.”

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the stabbing, who witnessed the incident or who has information about it is asked to contact the incident room on 020-8345 3734. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
