Man arrested after Hackney bike “hit and run”

A MAN HAS BEEN arrested after a police search for a cyclist who collided with a woman in Kingsland High Street on Tuesday. The cyclist collided with the woman as she tried to cross the road – but he left the scene of the accident shortly after.

The man is aged 30. He contacted police yesterday (Wednesday, 29th August) and was arrested at approximately 11pm at an address in Islington. He was arrested on suspicion of causing bodily harm and failing to stop and report a collision. He is currently being held in custody.

The woman pedestrian, 56, remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her next of kin have been found and told of the accident.

Police are still asking for any witnesses to come forward.  Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath on 020-8597 4874 or via 101, quoting reference CAD 5837/28 August.
