A HACKNEY MAN convicted in April of possessing an offensive weapon and a quantity of cannabis has been jailed for six months. Daren Weekes, 33, of Upper Clapton Road, E5, returned to Wood Green Crown Court on 15th June, where the sentence was handed down.
Detective Inspector Paul Ridley, from Hackney CID, said, “The sentence in this case clearly demonstrates that carrying a knife is not acceptable. Weekes was remanded in custody in April and is now in prison. In court the judge made mention of Weekes’s previous convictions that he [Weekes] clearly did not learn from.
“There is no excuse for carrying a knife on the streets of London and this has been demonstrated by the Court. Hackney officers and the wider Metropolitan Police will continue to identify and apprehend anyone who chooses to carry a knife.”
