Police respond to East London stabbing spree

NEWHAM, BARKING AND DAGENHAM all saw stabbings in the last week of August. Police have moved quickly to deal with the incidents, but they are still appealing to members of the public to help them crack the crimes.

 Newham
At 8.17pm on Tuesday, 30th August, police received reports that there had been a stabbing at Brook Road, E13. The emergency services attended and a twelve year old boy was taken to hospital with injuries that were assessed as not life-threatening. Two men were arrested at the scene.

On 1st September, Okan Boran, 35, of Hackney, was charged with causing Grievous Bodily Harm with intent and threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place. He was to appear at Thames Magistrates Court on the same date. A second man, aged in his 60s, was bailed until a date in late September while the police make further inquiries.

Dagenham
At 7.29pm on Saturday,27th August, police received reports that a man had been stabbed on Uvedale Road in Dagenham. Police attended, together with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance. They found a teenager, aged 15, who received medical treatment at the scene and was then taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition has not improved.

Police would like to trace three men who were seen in the area at the time of the attack. There is no description, other than that they were dressed in dark clothing.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police East Area CID are investigating. They are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, who witnessed the attack, or has any information which could assist their inquiry to contact them. Police issued a fresh appeal for assistance on 1st September.

Barking
At around 3pm on Friday, 26th August police received reports that a male had been stabbed in Harts Lane, Barking. Police and the London Ambulance Service attended. A teenager, aged 17, received medical treatment at the scene to stab wounds to his shoulder and chest. He was taken to an East London hospital where he remains. His condition is described as stable.

Police believe that three men in dark clothing were at the scene of the stabbing and left in a blue Hyundai motor vehicle. Later that evening, at around 10.13pm, the London Fire Brigade received reports that a blue Hyundair IONIQ was on fire in Butteridges Close, Dagenham. Police believe that this is the motor vehicle which the three men used to leave the scene of the stabbing.

Detective Sergeant Dave Parish, from the East Area Command, expressed shock that the attack took place in broad daylight. He appealed to the public to come forward and assist the investigation. The appeal was renewed on 1st September.
