It was 3.39am when reports came in to police that there had been a burglary at an address in Tower Hamlets which has not been released. Police believe that there were up to eight men involved in carrying out the burglary. They believe the men forced their way into the building and then demanded cash and gold from the residents – threatening them with weapons including a knife and machetes.

The burglars took a number of items away, leaving the residents shaken up but, fortunately, not physically harmed. What they left behind was their images on CCTV – which have now been released by the police in the hope that a member of the public will recognise them.

On 2nd August, police made their first arrest – a 21 year old man. He was detained in an East London Police Station and was charged with aggravated burglary on 3rd August. He was to appear in Thames Magistrates’ Court. However, the police search for the other suspects continues.

Detective Sergeant Justin Franklin from Whitechapel CID said, “This was a terrifying attack on a family asleep in their home. The perpetrators were violent and need to be caught as soon as possible. Although we have an arrest and charge, we need to hear from you if you have any information.”
